City Break Apartments
Two days in Dublin, spent well: the right pubs, Trinity College, Howth, Glendalough and the food worth booking. Our insider weekend guide.
Two days in Dublin is enough to fall in love with the city, if you know how to use them. Here's how we'd spend a perfect weekend.
Friday evening
Arrive, drop your bags at the apartment, and head straight to a Temple Bar pub. Not the tourist traps on the main street. Try Mulligan's on Poolbeg Street or The Long Hall on South Great George's Street. Get a pint of Guinness and settle in.
Saturday morning
Breakfast at Gaillot et Gray in Rathmines or Vice Coffee in the city centre. Then: Trinity College and the Book of Kells (book ahead), followed by a walk down Grafton Street to St. Stephen's Green.
Saturday afternoon
The National Museum of Ireland is free and extraordinary. Alternatively, take the DART to Howth, 25 minutes on the train to a fishing village with a coastal walk and the best fish and chips in Ireland.
Saturday evening
Dinner in the Liberties or along South William Street. Dublin's food scene has genuinely arrived: Bastible, Uno Mas, or Brother Hubbard for something excellent without the fuss.
Sunday
The Wicklow Mountains are 45 minutes by car or bus. Glendalough's monastic ruins and lake make for a genuinely special morning. Or stay in the city and explore the markets. Dún Laoghaire Farmers Market on Sunday morning is a favourite.
